Biking in Northeastern Minnesota's Iron Range

Home to the Mesabi Trail

The Iron Range Region in northern Minnesota is home to the longest and most scenic bike trail in the United States, The Mesabi TrailSM. When completed The Mesabi Trail will stretch over 132 miles and connect over 25 communities for all to enjoy a beautiful afternoon in northern Minnesota biking the day away. Currently, over 80 miles are paved and completed which includes a 50-mile continuously paved trail from Nashwauk to Eveleth on this scenic northern Minnesota bike trail. This northeastern Minnesota biking trail also offers shuttle service and Lodge-to-Lodge Biking packages.

Due to its great scenic diversity and beautiful surroundings, nearby historic sites, the close proximity of lodging and restaurants, this northern Minnesota biking trail will be unlike any other you have ever experienced before. The Mesabi Trail is a must ride trail for anyone who bicycles, rollerblades or even likes to take a casual walk.

Mesabi Trail Wheel Pass

A wheel pass is required for persons ages 18 and over using a wheeled device such as a bicycle or inline skates. Hikers, joggers and walkers are not required to purchase a pass.

The Mesabi Trail Wheel Pass costs $12 for an annual and $3 for a 2-day special pass. Revenue from the sales of the wheel pass has been dedicated to the long term maintenance of the Mesabi Trail.

Fayal Pond Trail System - Eveleth
The Fayal Pond trail system in Eveleth travels 3.5 miles to the Eveleth Veterans Park and provides northern Minnesota bikers with some great scenery including the lighted water fountain, big bobber, beautiful lake and wildlife scenery.

Hoyt Lakes Biking Trails - Hoyt Lakes
Hoyt Lakes' northern Minnesota biking trails travel from Whitewater Lake and Fisherman's Point Campground 2.5 miles into town and then 1.5 miles out to their northern Minnesota golf course. This Minnesota biking trail passes through pine, birch and aspen forests and is great for wildlife and waterfowl viewing.

Carey Lake Biking Trail - Hibbing
The Carey Lake biking trail system travels from the city of Hibbing, out to the Carey Lake Recreation Area that includes a beach, hiking trails, and scenic lake views.

Superior National Forest Scenic Byway
The Superior National Forest Scenic Byway provides bikers in northern Minnesota with a beautifully scenic and secluded route of 54 miles from the North Shore of Lake Superior and Silver Bay to the City of Aurora on the Iron Range. This new byway will provide bikers with fantastic wildlife sightings, panoramic scenic vistas and pristine wilderness beauty. Rest areas, toilets, water fountains, hiking trails, campgrounds, wildlife impoundments and scenic vista overlooks are all located on this newly constructed paved route. This is a must ride fall route for any experienced biker who enjoys the solitude of the wilderness and the beauty of Mother Nature in northern Minnesota. You'll find extended paved shoulders for your convenience.
