ThistledewThistledew trail is located 27 miles north of Nashwauk in the heart of the George Washington State Forest and is maintained by the Department of Natural Resources, Side Lake District. Most of this 20-kilometer (km) trail is for intermediate and advanced skiers, with one 4km beginner loop. In the summer and fall this trail system is excellent for the casual walk or experienced hiker to enjoy the scenic surroundings and view wildlife. Trails wind through mature pine and aspen forest, younger pine stands and recently reforested areas, on the hills of the Buttonbox glacial moraine. Two trail warming shelters are located along the trail. Rustic winter camping is available through the winter.Directions: The trailhead is 27 miles north of Nashwauk on Highway 65, and then 3.5 miles northwest on the Thistledew Trail.
